Programmatic music is a type of music that tells you a story of the piece. Is like a description. Storytelling through music indicating the events at that time. The feeling when listening is realistic. And its effect on people. In the Romantic era Programmatic music became very popular in this time.

Beethoven pastorale

Beethoven is a person who likes nature more than people. He moved from Vienna to the countryside to stay with nature and compose Beethoven symphony No.6 after he spent time in the forest. Walking around and listening to the bird sound. He got the idea about how to play instrument music and copy the bird sound. He thinks how this bird sounds affect people. After that he thought of using a story to tell a story about a wood tree river and bird.            

Beethoven symphony No.6 pastorale is the first sound walk piece.

1905  Debussy ‘La mer’

Debussy likes to read books. He is very good at depicting.story telling across the music. He was very focused on the mood. For Debussy the mood is more important than everything. For the Debussy La mer he tells the story about the sea. The sea landscape. Focus on the sky with sunset. Debussy is interesting in the sky. He was inspired by looking at the sky in the evening. Watching sunset every day. That gives him an idea of landscape sunset. In “La mer” there are many melodies that affect mood. Using pictures with music to affect mood.
